Sierra Experts is proud of our software development team. We hire talented and driven developers, like this month’s featured employee, David Thiry. David is one of our best software developers, and has been with the team at Sierra for more than three years.
Before David joined the Sierra team, he attended Pittsburgh Technical College (formerly Pittsburgh Technical Institute when he was a student). At PTC, he received his degree studying computer programming. David worked diligently as a student and was able to pull off a 4.0 and perfect attendance all while being extremely active in extracurricular activities. He was a peer tutor, a teacher’s aide, and worked many events including judging a high school competition for the Technology Student Association of Pennsylvania (TSA). Before graduating, David took and passed all the certifications offered to him through iCarnegie.
With all of that said, David was more than qualified to begin his internship with Sierra. Following graduation, he was hired on full-time and today is one of Sierra’s most trusted Software Developers. On a day-to-day basis, you can find David working on custom software for internal use, such as our Sierra Incident Manager which is a web-based application to simplify workflow. Also, David works with customers to create software that does exactly what they need it to do. For example, he works on a purchase order system for a trucking/landscaping supply company that tracks items being purchased, delivery details, and much more.
When asked about his favorite part of the work he does, David said,
“I enjoy problem solving. It’s extremely rewarding when you’re able to face a problem and find a solution that leaves the person satisfied. That’s a great way to build customer relationships.”
In David’s spare time, he doesn’t stray too far from technology, as he enjoys PC gaming for fun. You can also find him hanging out with friends and following BMX. When asked about his goals for the future, David laughed, “I’d like to win the lottery.” Realistically, however, he hopes to receive Microsoft certifications and begin moving towards obtaining his bachelor’s degree.
