Your business needs help! Maybe you are growing and can no longer handle your IT needs internally. You currently use a Managed Service Provider (MSP) but don’t feel like it is the right fit, or you are hoping to save money by switching to an MSP. Regardless of the reason, choosing your MSP correctly is important. Here are some factors to consider while evaluating which MSP is right for your business.
Services
What services do you need? Data storage, backup, disaster recovery, network management, end-user or help desk support? If you don’t know exactly what you need, ask for an IT assessment to determine which solutions would best benefit your business. You also want to ask if they offer all these services in-house or if they outsource any of them. Finally, do they offer a standard set of included services, or do you pick and choose the ones you want?
Security
How are the systems supported? It is important to know if this is something that they do internally or outsource. Backing up your data is one of the most important ways to ensure it is safe. Do they provide onsite, offsite, or cloud backup options?
Expertise
What is their level of expertise with similar customers, customers in the same industry, or experience with similar solutions? Do they specialize in anything? If they do have experience in a similar vertical, ask if they can provide you references or case studies.
Customer Service
Are they local? Local MSPs can give you easier access to resources especially during downtime and other IT emergencies. Do they offer 24/7 remote management and monitoring 365 days a year? You also want to consider if you want remote and on-site support. It is also a good idea to get a feel for what the onboarding process will be like.
