Easter is right around the corner, so that means lots of chocolate, bunnies, and Easter eggs! However, the term “Easter egg” has a different meaning in the tech world. When browsing the internet, an Easter egg is a message, image, or joke hidden inside of a website. In order to activate the Easter egg, you may have to click a certain graphic or key in a code.
For the most part, there’s no real use for these Easter eggs, but it’s a great way to kill some time and have a laugh or two.

1. Google Tricks
Google is known for its dozens of hidden games, tricks, jokes, and more. One well known Easter egg is typing, “Do a Barrel Roll” in the Google search engine. Try it and see what happens!
Sometimes, Google can be a little bit sassy too. Type the following terms into the search engine and you’ll see what we mean:
- Askew
- Anagram
- The loneliest number
One last trick that you may have missed, even if you’ve been using Google for years, is the “I’m Feeling Lucky” button. You probably haven’t used it that much, if it all. Well, if you hover over the button (don’t click!) the button will change to something like “I’m Feeling Artistic” or “I’m Feeling Curious.” When you click the button once it has changed ‘emotions,’ it will take you to a related web page.
2. A Coder’s Delight
If you’re not a coder or a programmer, chances are you never would have noticed these. If you are one, you know it’s pretty easy to hide messages in your code. Some websites did just that! Go to the following websites, right click, and choose “View Page Source” to see if you can find the Easter eggs.
3. The Konami Code
Any true gamer knows what the Konami code is, but if you’re not familiar, it’s a cheat code that was put into many Konami video games. Now, some developers use it to hide graphics and jokes on websites. Visit the following websites and type the code: Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A
4. The Useless Web
So, this one isn’t so much an Easter Egg hidden inside of a website; instead it’s more like an Easter Egg hidden inside the internet. Okay, it’s not hidden, but you may not have heard of it. This one is a perfect cure for boredom. Simply go to https://theuselessweb.com and you’ll be prompted to click a button that will continuously take you to silly, funny, and ultimately useless websites.
